Terms of Service
Short version: You can install FileForge on up to 2 Macs you own (5 with a Family license). Don't redistribute, reverse-engineer, or share your license key. The app modifies files on your computer — back up anything important before bulk operations. We're not liable for data loss.
1. Agreement
These Terms ("Terms") govern your use of the FileForge application ("the App") and the website at fileforgeapp.com ("the Site"). By purchasing, downloading, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the App.
"We", "us", and "FileForge" refer to Ali Essaji, operating as FileForge. "You" means the individual or entity using the App.
2. License
Subject to these Terms and payment of the applicable fee, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:
- Install and use the App on Macs you personally own or control
- Pro license: up to 2 Macs simultaneously
- Pro Family license: up to 5 Macs simultaneously in your household
- Deactivate a Mac at any time via Settings → License to free a slot
3. Restrictions
You may not:
- Resell, redistribute, sublicense, rent, or lease the App or your license key
- Share your license key publicly or with anyone outside your permitted device count
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App, except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law
- Remove or alter copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices
- Use the App to violate any law, infringe third-party rights, or harm any computer system
- Attempt to circumvent the license verification mechanism
4. Updates
During the license period for a given major version (e.g. v1.x), updates are provided free of charge. A future major version (e.g. v2.0) may be offered as a paid upgrade at a discount for existing license holders.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time, but will not intentionally remove functionality materially relied upon by paying customers without notice.
5. Your data and files
FileForge operates on files you already own and have authority to modify. You are solely responsible for:
- Maintaining backups of important data
- Reviewing items flagged for deletion before confirming destructive actions
- Ensuring you have the right to delete, rename, or move the files you process with the App
Important: FileForge includes features that delete, rename, or move files in bulk. Even with built-in safeguards (Trash, undo, Safe/Review badges), data loss is possible. Always maintain current backups before running bulk operations.
6. Disclaimer of warranty
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
7. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL FILEFORGE, ITS OPERATOR, OR ITS AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE APP, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR YOUR FILEFORGE LICENSE. (FileForge is a one-time purchase — this is the price you paid at checkout, independent of when the claim arises.)
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FileForge and its operator from any claim, demand, loss, or damage (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the App, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
9. Free tier & refunds
FileForge offers a free tier with no time limit so you can evaluate the app on your own hardware before buying. The free tier covers enough usage for a realistic trial — we consider it the primary "try before you buy".
Because you can fully test FileForge for free, we do not operate a separate refund program. Refund requests are handled by Paddle (our Merchant of Record) under their standard buyer terms, which include any statutory refund rights you have under EU, UK, California, or other applicable consumer law. To request a refund, contact support@fileforgeapp.com or reply to your Paddle receipt.
10. Termination
Your license terminates automatically if you breach these Terms. On termination, you must cease use of the App and destroy all copies. Any refund handling is governed by Paddle's buyer terms, independent of termination for breach.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator is resident, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes must be brought in the courts of that jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not override mandatory consumer-protection rights in your country.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the App or website. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
